Issue 5 - 25th September 2020

Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

A couple of weeks ago the whole staff had a training day on our new phonics scheme, which teachers use to teach children how to read and write. The positive impact this training has had in just a short space of time has been wonderful to see across the school and I do hope you can see and hear at home the rapid progress children, particularly in KS1, are already making.

Closures of a large number of schools and 'bubbles' across the country and local authority prove what a critical time it is and that we all have a duty to look after one another. As a result, I am asking for your continued co-operation in the wearing of facemasks on the school site. Feedback from our most recent questionnaire indicates that there are many members of our school community that feel we're doing a great job in keeping everyone safe but believe we should be enforcing the use of face masks on the school site. Although we're not going to question every adult entering the site about the use of a face covering I do hope that those able to wear a covering do so. It's our social responsibility to keep each other safe and if we do have a positive case at the school we need to minimise the risk of the virus spreading.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mr Kemp

LATEST NEWS

READING SPONSORSHIP

To continue our love of reading initiative and to raise more funds for school books we sent home sponsor forms earlier this week and information about a sponsored read (y2-6) or a sponsored listen (Rec and Y1). The event runs from next Monday 28th - Sunday 4th October. All monies, and an additional 60% of what is raised will be spent on books for the school. Thank you in advance for your support.

PROSPECTIVE PARENTS - VIRTUAL OPEN DAY

Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we're not holding any face-face meetings with prospective parents this Autumn term. We understand that open days do provide many parents and carers with a great opportunity to see what life is like at school and as a result we've created some video resources for a 'Virtual Open Day'. If you are or know of any prospective parents for September 2021 please share the following link with them: https://www.parkfieldprimary.com/website/admissions.html

HOME LEARNING

For those pupils self isolating at home work is being set on Showbie and Tapestry (Reception) so that they can access work that is being delivered in the classroom. Please note, there may be some delay in class teachers uploading work when your child is initially isolating.

Due to a lack of uptake, we're no longer going to offer the daily video call for pupils self isolating at home but will expect contact with pupils via Showbie or a phone call.
