Dear Parkfield Families,
Although it has been a shorter week than usual, it has certainly been a busy one and a fantastic way to bring another successful school year to a close.
This week, we have celebrated our wonderful Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move on to high school. Their leavers' party was a brilliant evening, with plenty of dancing, laughter and memories made. The bowling trip was enjoyed by all, and their final performance of The Wizard of Oz was a fitting finale to their seven years at Parkfield. The confidence, humour and talent they displayed on stage was incredible, and I couldn't be prouder of the young people they have become. We wish every one of them the very best of luck for the future—we know they will continue to achieve great things.
A huge well done to our Year 5 children, who impressed everyone with their musical concert. Thank you to all the family members who came along to support them as they confidently showcased the fantastic progress they have made learning the p-bones.
Our Reception children also stole the show during their class assembly, proudly sharing everything they have learnt during their first year at Parkfield. It is incredible to see just how much they have grown in confidence and independence since joining us last September.
As we reach the end of another wonderful year, I would like to thank every member of our Parkfield community for your continued support. The partnership between home and school is one of our greatest strengths and plays such an important role in helping our children flourish.
On behalf of all the staff, thank you for your kindness, encouragement and support throughout the year. We hope you all have a fantastic summer filled with rest, fun and special family memories. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in September, refreshed and ready for another exciting year at Parkfield.
Have a wonderful summer!

THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK MISS LEARY
Miss Leary, who has been our brilliant Y2 teacher for this past year, leaves us today after covering a maternity leave. Miss Leary has had a great impact on the pupils she has taught this year and she has brought a positivity and energy to the school that will be missed by all. Best of luck to Miss Leary in her new role - at Hollin Primary School!
SCHOOL UNIFORM CHANGES
This summer we gave our Parkfielders the option of wearing their PE kit every day. This has been a positive move and has been welcomed by pupils and many families. As a result, for the whole of the next academic year, wearing the standard school uniform will not be a requirement and families can choose whether their child attends in their usual uniform or their Parkfield PE kit each day.
We believe this flexibility will bring a number of positive benefits over the year, including:
• Increasing participation in physical activity
• Improving comfort and focus in class
• Supporting inclusion for girls and pupils with SEND
As a reminder, the Parkfield PE kit consists of:
• Royal blue hoody (with or without zip, with or without the school logo)
• Plain royal blue or white T-shirt (with or without the school logo)
• Navy or black shorts/tracksuit pants/leggings
• Trainers
Those pupils that attend in non-school uniform will be provided with spare Parkfield uniform/PE kit for the day.
OFFICE STAFFING CHANGES
A reminder that our new office staff members are: Miss Holden (School Administrator) and Miss Speedy (School Business Manager). They will be getting to know our families and how things work at Parkfield over the coming months.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Please note that most events for next school year are already on the school calendar. Holiday dates can also be found here: https://www.parkfieldprimary.com/families/calendar-inc-holiday-lists
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
As we come to the end of another successful school year, I'd like to thank you for the fantastic support you have shown throughout the year. One area where we would love to see further improvement next year is attendance.
Over the past year, Parkfield pupils missed more than 400 days of learning due to unauthorised holidays taken during term time. We completely understand that, on occasions, families may have circumstances that make holiday arrangements difficult. However, every day in school really does matter. Lessons build on previous learning, important experiences cannot always be repeated, and time away from school can make it harder for children to keep up with their classmates, both academically and socially.
As we look ahead to September, we kindly ask all families to support us by booking holidays during the school holidays wherever possible. By working together, we can ensure that every Parkfielder has the very best opportunity to thrive, achieve their potential and make the most of every day in school.
We would also like to remind parents that holidays of 5 or more school days are likely to result in a Penalty Notice (fine) being issued, in line with Local Authority and Government guidance.
GUITAR LESSONS?
If your child would like to take part in guitar lessons from September, please let the school office know. Rochdale Music Service some into Parkield on a weekly basis and work with our KS2 pupils. There is an additional cost to the lessons.
BROADBENTS
This year, Broadbents school uniform shop have decided to extend their opening hours to offer those families who prefer a quieter environment a calming free fitting service. This will be by appointment only, with each family getting a 15 minute time slot where no other customer will be in the shop. The dates they have scheduled in are 9th and 23rd July from 5.30pm. Please call the shop directly to book an appointment if you want to use this service (0161 643 5193 / 07572 601886).

WATER BOTTLES
From September, every Parkfielder will be provided with a school water bottle, so there is no need for families to purchase or send one in from home.
Each child will keep their water bottle in school, where it will be cleaned regularly by staff. This means every child will have access to a suitable water bottle every day, removing one more thing for families to remember each morning.
We have also found that many bottles brought in from home are either too large to fit under our water fountains or in classroom storage baskets, or they are easily damaged and prone to leaking. By providing the same bottle for everyone, we can ensure they are practical, durable and suitable for use throughout the school day.
We hope this simple change will make daily routines a little easier for families while ensuring all children have easy access to water throughout the day.
SCHOOL SPORTS PLATINUM AWARD
Congratulations to Mrs Banks who has worked tirelessly over the past few years to earn Parkfield the School Games 'Platinum Award'. This award is presented to schools that have demonstrated a high level of dedication towards PE and sport over the past five years. Our Parkfielders get a range of opportunities to take part in these activities, such as: two hours of high quality PE each week, after school sports clubs and inter-school competitions. Well done Mrs Banks and thanks for everything you do at Parkfield!
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN EASILY RAISE MONEY FOR PARKFIELD?
Everytime you spend money online a small amount will be donated to school if you sign up to EasyFundraising. It costs you nothing!

I hold a degree in Business and Financial Management and have over 37 years of experience working in Local Government and the Civil Service. I bring a wealth of leadership, governance and strategic management experience to my role as the Chair of Governing Board.
My connection with Parkfield Primary School began in 1997 when my eldest child started in Reception. As a parent of three children who all attended the school, I joined the governing board in 1997/98 to support the continued success of a school that has played an important role in my family's life. I have had the privilege of serving as the Chair of Governors since 2016.
I am proud to work alongside a dedicated governing board, an exceptional Headteacher and a highly talented staff team who are all committed to providing the very best education and opportunities for every child. The governing boards role is to provide strategic leadership, ensuring that the school continues to thrive and deliver the highest standards of education.
Whilst raising standards and supporting pupils to achieve their full academic potential are key priorities, I am equally passionate about the strong programme of enrichment and wider learning opportunities that Parkfield offers. I firmly believe that these experiences help children to develop PARK qualities and the skills they need to succeed in the future. This commitment to educating the whole child is one of the qualities that makes Parkfield Primary School such a special place.
Outside of my role as Chair of Governors, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our three children and our two small grandchildren. I also have a black Labrador called Poppy, who is happiest when she's chasing a ball and loves to go swimming.

Year 4: 90.8%
Year 5: 90.1%

Number of lates this week: 9
A reminder that classes that achieve at least 96% attendance (no more than 6 days of absence across a class) get a reward on their attendance ladder!
Please note that, in line with the school policy, fines will be issued to families that go on a term time holiday where children miss 5 consecutive full days. Currently the fine is £160 per child per parent which equates to a £640 fine for a two parent family with two children. This is reduced to £320 if paid within 21days. If you are going on holiday due to exceptional circumstances, please speak to the headteacher as a fine may not have to be issued. More information an be found on our attendance policy found here.
Persistent absence is defined by the Government as attendance below 90%. This equates to 19 days or more of absence a year or 100+ lessons missed. If a child’s attendance drops below 90% this could lead to them becoming a safeguarding concern and will certainly lead to them doing less well than their peers.
The link between attendance and achievement cannot be over stated. Your child will achieve better if they are in school every day. Only in very exceptional circumstances should a child be absent from school. Please ring the school office no later than 8.30am to report an absence.
Please get your child to school on time. Poor punctuality can lead to your child…
Feeling embarrassed in front of their friends
Missing the beginning of vital lessons making them fall behind
Missing important instructions for the rest of the school day
At Parkfield children are to line up before school and doors open at 8.45am. They close shortly after.
Arrivals after 9am are marked as late and anyone arriving after 9.30am are classed as an unauthorised absence for the morning session.
ATTENDANCE - MEDICINES
Our overall school attendance is steadily increasing and one reason is due to many of our families taking up the school offer of bringing a bottle of Calpol in for their child if they are feeling slightly under the weather. The medicine can then be administered by school staff if your child needs it throughout the day. We do find that many of our Parkfielders show that true resilience when they arrive in school and get through their day with very little support. However, if your child is too poorly to stay in school, we will contact home so that they can be collected.
Mrs Smith is our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) supported by Mr Kemp, Mrs Clawson and Mrs Edyvean. If you have any concerns about the needs or welfare of a pupil, please don't hesitate to contact the school. We all share a responsibility to our pupils safety and wellbeing.
As a school our promise is: We will listen, we will support and we will take action.
More information can be found on the school website here: https://www.parkfieldprimary.com/website/safeguarding-and-child-protection.html
STAY SAFE REMINDERS
If your child is attending Early Birds, please walk down the path and through the KS1 yard - it may take a few more seconds but it's much safer than walking through the busy car park. If the hall door is ever closed, simply ring the bell for assistance.
Dogs are not permitted in the school playground.
If driving, park further away from the school and walk to reduce congestion and the possibility of any serious accidents.
Unfortunately, Parents and Carers are not allowed to drop off and pick up from the school car park at any time.
Children are not allowed on the play equipment before and after school. Please keep them off.
