Dear Parkfield Families,
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of our first half term; it has certainly been a busy one here at Parkfield.
Well done to our Year 5 and Year 6 rugby teams, who took part in competitions at St Mary’s earlier this week. You represented Parkfield brilliantly, showing teamwork, determination and great sportsmanship throughout. We’re very proud of you all.
A huge thank you to the many families who were able to join us for Parents’ Evening this week. It was wonderful to see over 90% of our families attend. We hope you found your conversations with class teachers helpful and that you were able to celebrate the progress your child has made so far this term.
In assembly this week, we focused on the importance of good attendance and what it means to meet our school target of 96%. This target is the equivalent of no more than six days of absence across the school year. We also explored what this looks like for a class, where meeting the target means no more than six pupil-days of absence each week. Congratulations to our fantastic Year 2 class, who have already reached the top of the attendance ladder after maintaining 96% or above for five weeks this term. They celebrated today with a well-deserved non-uniform day.
The term finished on a real high with our annual Poetry X-Factor competition, where pupils had the chance to recite and perform their chosen poems in front of the whole school. It was wonderful to see such confidence, creativity and expression from every participant. Congratulations to our winning class Y5, who will now go on to represent Parkfield at St Anne’s Academy, competing against other Middleton schools. We wish them the best of luck.
In this week’s Meet the Staff section, we’re featuring Mrs Taylor, our wonderful Reception teacher. We know our youngest Parkfielders are thriving thanks to her care, creativity and enthusiasm.
As we finish for the half-term break, I’d like to thank everyone, including pupils, staff and families, for making these first seven and a half weeks such a positive and productive start to the school year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 3rd November.
Have a wonderful and restful half-term break.
Mr Kemp

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL DINNER PROVIDER, FRESH KITCHEN, ON ALLERGENS

Fresh Kitchen has a robust HACCP system in place that minimises the risk of exposure to allergens, we train our Catering Employees to encourage self-responsibility and have processes in place to any possible emergencies.
Due to the way our food is prepared, it is not possible to guarantee the absence of allergens within our kitchens. Therefore, we cannot guarantee school meals to be 100% allergen free.
If you have any concerns in regard to your child and allergens, then please speak to the school office / Kitchen Supervisor who will be more than happy to help.

EASY FUNDRAISING - ONLINE AND APP
We’d like to let you know about a simple and completely free way to help raise funds for Parkfield Primary School through an online platform called easyfundraising that we have currently raised £40 from.
Easyfundraising allows schools, charities and causes across the UK to receive donations whenever supporters shop online. It doesn’t cost you a penny, as over 7,000 retailers (including John Lewis & Partners, Argos, Iceland, Amazon, eBay and M&S) donate a small percentage of your total spend to the school every time you shop via their site or app.
So far, over 190,000 causes have raised more than £56 million through easyfundraising, proving that every little really does help.
To make it even easier, you can download the easyfundraising app to your phone. This means you can raise donations for Parkfield automatically every time you shop online.
To get started and support our school, please click here: Easyfundraising for Parkfield . Every donation makes a difference to our pupils.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CHILD IS POORLY
If your child is unwell, please call the school office before 9am and speak directly with a member of our team – Miss Pritchard or Mrs Cummings. We don’t use an answerphone service, as speaking to someone in person means we can offer advice, confirm how long your child may need to stay off school, or even suggest they come in if we feel they’ll manage with support during the day. Quite often, our Parkfielders perk up once they’re in school and benefit from being around their friends and teachers.
Please note that if your child is absent and we haven't been notified, we will contact you shortly after registers have been taken.
ATTENDANCE UPDATE
Our whole school attendance so far this academic year is 94.8%, which is below both our school target of 96% and the current national average. While this may not sound like a big difference, even a few days of absence can quickly add up and have a real impact on a child’s progress, confidence, and long-term outcomes.
Attending school every day really does matter. Children who are in school consistently not only achieve better academically but also build stronger friendships and develop the positive routines that help them succeed.
To put this into perspective, our school target of 96% attendance allows for no more than 7 days of absence across the whole year. Missing more than this can start to affect learning and make it harder for pupils to keep up. That said, our ambition is for all pupils to achieve above 96%, giving them the very best opportunity to thrive.
We know that illness and absence are sometimes unavoidable, but we hope that over the coming months we can work together to improve attendance and give every Parkfielder the very best chance to shine. Parents can support this by avoiding term-time holidays and, where possible, booking medical appointments outside of school hours.
ARBOR - WE NOW HAVE 83% OF OUR PARENTS AND CARERS SIGNED UP!
Firstly, we'd like to thank you for you perseverence and patience with our new system - Arbor. The vast majority of parents and guardians have had no trouble logging in and using the app / website but there have been a few teething issues which we were expecting because it is a new. However, if you need any support with logging in, booking clubs and making payments, please contact the school office and Miss Pritchard and Mrs Cummings will be happy to help.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS, FREE HOLIDAY CLUBS AND FOOD VOUCHERS
Did you know that if you are entitled to free school meals you also get access to free holiday clubs and food vouchers during the holidays? To apply or if you're not sure if you are eligible, please read the information and apply using the link here. School receives additional funding for those pupils that are entitled for free school meals and this much needed funding helps better support all Parkfielders. Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 or they're on packed lunch - please still apply. In addition, if there has been a change in your family circumstances (i.e. recently become unemployed) you may also be entitled to apply for Free School Meals.
Meet Our Parkfield Staff
Mrs Taylor is our teacher in Reception. She has been part of Parkfield for over 21 years and has taught in most year groups across the school. She has a real passion for the early years and loves helping our youngest pupils take their first steps in learning. Mrs Taylor lives in Rochdale with her husband, Lee, and their three-year-old son, William. In her spare time, she enjoys an hour of peace at reformer Pilates!
Latest Class Updates
Mr Kemp is our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) supported by Mrs Clawson and Mrs Smith (Deputy DSL). If you have any concerns about the needs or welfare of a pupil, please don't hesitate to contact the school. We all share a responsibility to our pupils safety and wellbeing.
As a school our promise is: We will listen, we will support and we will take action.
More information can be found on the school website here: https://www.parkfieldprimary.com/website/safeguarding-and-child-protection.html
As you are all aware, school attendance and punctuality is one of Parkfields priorities and I have been thrilled with the support that parents have been giving with regards to improving their children’s attendance.
Our school target is 96% this year and we need your continued support to ensure that we meet this mark.
Please note that, in line with the school policy, fines will be issued to families that go on a term time holiday where children miss 5 consecutive full days. Currently the fine is £160 per child per parent which equates to a £640 fine for a two parent family with two children. This is reduced to £320 if paid within 21days. If you are going on holiday due to exceptional circumstances, please speak to the headteacher as a fine may not have to be issued. More information an be found on our attendance policy found here.
Persistent absence is defined by the Government as attendance below 90%. This equates to 19 days or more of absence a year or 100+ lessons missed. If a child’s attendance drops below 90% this could lead to them becoming a safeguarding concern. This could also result in the authority taking legal action against parents, resulting in a fine or court appearance. Over the next few weeks I will be making contact by letter with the families of children whose attendance is below 90% to invite you into school for a discussion about how we can support you to improve your child’s attendance.
Thank you so much to all the families who have been working hard to ensure children’s attendance and punctuality is high. Establishing early good habits really will make a positive difference to their lives. The link between attendance and achievement cannot be over stated. Your child will achieve better if they are in school every day. Only in very exceptional circumstances should a child be absent from school. Please ring the school office no later than 8.30am to report an absence.
Please get your child to school on time. Poor punctuality can lead to your child…
Feeling embarrassed in front of their friends
Missing the beginning of vital lessons making them fall behind
Missing important instructions for the rest of the school day
At Parkfield children are to line up before school and doors open at 8.45am. They close at shortly after.
If you arrive after the doors are closed you will have to come through the school office.
Arrivals after 9.30am are classed as an unauthorised absence for the morning session.
STAY SAFE REMINDERS
If your child is attending Early Birds, please walk down the path and through the KS1 yard - it may take a few more seconds but it's much safer than walking through the busy car park. If the hall door is ever closed, simply ring the bell for assistance.
Dogs are not permitted in the school playground.
If driving, park further away from the school and walk to reduce congestion and the possibility of any serious accidents.
Unfortunately, Parents and Carers are not allowed to drop off and pick up from the school car park at any time.
Children are not allowed on the play equipment before and after school. Please keep them off.
5 WAYS TO WELLBEING
At Parkfield we promote the 5 ways to Wellbeing which can help children and adults to achieve a more positive lifestyle.
