Issue 3 - 10th September 2020

Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have only been back in school for a week and Parkfield is back to the happy, vibrant and positive environment it always has been. The vast majority of pupils have settled back into school life brilliantly and what has been impressive is how they have easily adapted to the new rules and routines we have had to put in place. The positive way our Parkfielders have reacted proves how resilient children are even in times of real uncertainty.

For those Parkfielders that are still understandably feeling anxious about coming into school, the Parkfield staff team are doing a brilliant job in identifying those individuals and supporting them in any way they can. If you are worried about your child and feel that they may require additional support, please let us know.

The last few weeks have proved what a fabulous team we do have at Parkfield - one that I'm incredibly proud of. All the staff have had to get used to working in new ways yet still provide our pupils with a high quality and ambitious curriculum. Walking around school and observing some of the high quality writing, reading, maths, science, art, DT and numerous interventions taking place demonstrate what a dedicated and committed team we have at Parkfield.

Thank you for your continued support

Mr Kemp

LATEST NEWS

CLOSED - TOMORROW

A reminder that we're closed tomorrow (Friday 11th September) because of staff training. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and a reminder that this was training that we were unable to have as a staff team during the school lockdown period. The training is linked to our new phonics scheme: Read, Write Inc which pupils across the school, particularly infants, will hugely benfit from.

MEET THE TEACHER

Please keep an eye out for a Zoom video call invite so that you can join a 'meet the teacher' event next week. This is for parents and carers and not for children. The class teacher will present to you a range of information for this coming year. The days and times are as follows and if any siblings do clash we'll make the slides available.

Monday @ 4pm - Reception and Year 1

Tuesday @ 4pm - Year 2 and Year 3

Wednesday @ 4pm - Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

HOME LEARNING

Although we don't want it to happen, it is likely that individuals and whole classes will have to self isolate at some point over the next few months. We are prepared for these scenarios and now have systems in place for when/if this happens.

Our aim, if any pupil is off school, is to ensure they don't fall behind the rest of the class in their learning and ensure they continue to make progress. This will include work being set that's linked to the curriculum being delivered in class and daily contact through a video call. If your child does have to self isolate we will send more details at the time.

LEARNING LOGS Y1-6

You can find links to resources to help your child complete learning log homework tasks for this half-term here: https://www.parkfieldprimary.com/website/2020/09/learning-log-resources-autumn-1-2020.html. Online Mathletics tasks are also set each week for children to complete for homework.

ILLNESS - REMINDER

If your child is poorly they must not come into school. If your child is displaying coronavirus symptoms we will ask you to get your child tested. Once a negative test result comes back and your child is symptom free, your child will be able to come back into school. If the test is positive, we will have to send all pupils and teachers home from that child's bubble for 14 days self-isolation.

I also want to make you aware that if you refuse to get your child tested, the school must treat it as a positive result and all pupils and staff within your child's bubble will be sent home to self-isolate for 14 days.

FACE COVERINGS TO BE WORN AT DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Thank you for adhering to the local guidelines and wearing face coverings whilst on the school grounds. Following further advice from the Local Authority, we've had to review our risk assessment and been told that all adults coming onto the school site must wear a face covering whilst dropping off and picking up your children. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we hope you adhere to the rules to help keep others and yourself safe. Please don't make other parents/carers feel uncomfortable on the school grounds by not wearing a face covering. Those exempt from wearing a covering will not need to wear one.

EXTRA CURRICULAR CLUBS NOT TAKING PLACE

Unfortunately, due to a very low interest in after school clubs, we are not going to run any extra curricular clubs for this term. The low numbers of pupils interested don't make it feasible or cost effective to run the clubs. Although we would have loved to offer clubs to all, given the current circumstances, it is understandable why so few have signed up to take part. We hope to offer after school clubs again in the Spring term.

BUG CLUB - CANCELLATION

We have cancelled our school subscription to Bug Club which means pupils will be unable to access their account. Although the resource has been useful over the years, we've made the decision because we feel that the amount of money being spent annually on the resource isn't having a significant enough impact on children's learning. If you would still like to access ebooks for your child, Oxford Owl provide over 200 free books that your child can read. Sign up is available here: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/

PE KITS

Children in Y1-6 have looked very smart this week when coming into school in their PE kits. Thank you for your support with this which has meant children haven't had to get changed in small classrooms/toilets or mistakingly worn someone elses uniform! For those that haven't been able to purchase a school hoody, wearing a school jumper is absolutely fine.

SCHOOL CURRICULUM https://curriculum.parkfieldprimary.com/home

If you would like to know what your child is learning this half term please visit our curriculum website. The site provides you with all the information you need to support your child at home. Parkfield staff have worked incredibly hard over the past few months to complete as it includes comprehensive information about what each class is learning each term across every subject. Our long term plans pages (https://curriculum.parkfieldprimary.com/long-term-plans) have links to each classes half termly curriculum overview. We do hope you find the information useful.

Y2 SCHOOL TRIP - A DAY AT THE BEACH

It starts to feel like normal when school trips are back! Y2 will be visiting Lytham, St. Anne's next week as part of their 'Beachcombers' topic work. Y2 parents will have recieved a seperate email regarding payment and further details of the trip.

WATER BOTTLES

As we are a healthy school and promote healthy living, a reminder that children are only allowed water in their bottles. They are provided with juice at lunchtime and they're allowed juice with their packed lunch.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP

It feels a little less hectic each morning - thank you. A reminder that to help reduce congestion we are asking:

  • Those that are late must walk round to the door they usually enter and not the main entrance.

  • Only one parent/carer to enter the school grounds, where possible

  • Those that are happy for their child to walk onto the school site and wait on their own may do so (likely to be Y6 and 5 children)

CORONAVIRUS INFO https://newsletters.parkfieldprimary.com/covid-19-information

A reminder that if anyone in your household displays symptoms of coronavirus, the whole household must self isolate and not come into school until that person has been tested. At school, self-isolation will not be classed as an absence and work will be provided for those that are at home. If you are unsure, please contact school.

For more information related to coronavirus, please visit our dedicated page. We will regularly update this page which includes information about self isolation, what happens if there's a positive test in the school community and our most upto date risk assessment.

HEALTHY SNACKS FOR KS2 CHILDREN
