Issue 20 - Friday 31st January 2025
Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parkfield Families,
A huge thank you to all parents and carers who attended Parents' Evening this week. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress across the curriculum, and we truly appreciate your time and support. We were delighted that over 90% of our families attended—your involvement makes a real difference! If you've not yet filled it in, please take few minutes to complete the spring term parent questionnaire by clicking here.
Last Friday, three members of our Year 6 Technology Team had an incredible opportunity to visit the BETT Show in London alongside Mr. Haughton and school governor Mr. Dugdill. It was a long day, with a 4am start and a 10pm finish, but an unforgettable experience! The team travelled by train to London, explored cutting-edge educational computing software and hardware, and even had time to visit a few famous landmarks. A fantastic day of learning and inspiration!
I understand that recent staff absences may have caused some disruptions, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by postponed events. While we always strive to minimise disruption for our Parkfielders, some changes are unavoidable. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding during these times.
Finally, I'd like to share the lovely news that Mrs Clawson's has had a baby girl, Matilda, who arrived earlier this week. Both baby and mum are doing well and I'm sure you'll join me in wishing the family all the best on their new arrival.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
Mr. Kemp

LATEST NEWS
ATTENDANCE
Did you know that to meet our school attendance target of 96%, your child should have no more than 7 days of absence across the entire school year? Regular attendance is essential for your child's progress and achievement, and we encourage them to be in school every day.
If your child is feeling slightly unwell, please send them into school—we will support them as best we can. If their condition worsens, we will contact you and make appropriate arrangements.
ATTENDANCE REWARDS - WELL DONE
The great news is that we had four classes last week achieve our target of 96% attendance for their class (Rec, Y1, Y3 and Y4). This is a great achievement and means that each class had less than 6 days of pupil absence in total. All four classes moved one step closer to the whole class reward on their attendance rockets.
Thank you for your support in ensuring every child has the best opportunity to succeed!
SPRINGHILL HOSPICE
Springy visited the school earlier this week to say 'thank you' for all the monies raised for Springhill Hospice during the reindeer run that took place just before Christmas. We raised a total of £1,400 for this wonderful charity. Thank you so much for your support.

A BIG THANK YOU!
Mrs Banks and the Eco Council would like to say a big THANK YOU to the parents that gave up their time on Monday morning to help plant some hedges on the school playing field. It was very cold and wet but with a bit of teamwork we got the job done!
Mrs Banks would also like to thank one of our parents (children in year 1 and year 4) for the fantastic donation of some bibs for our PE lessons. This is much appreciated!!

ATTENDANCE and PUNCTUALITY
As you are all aware, school attendance and punctuality is one of Parkfields priorities and I have been thrilled with the support that parents have been giving with regards to improving their children’s attendance.
Our school target is 96% this year and we need your continued support to ensure that we meet this mark.
ATTENDANCE - HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME
Please note that, in line with the school policy, fines will be issued to families that go on a term time holiday where children miss 5 consecutive full days. Currently the fine is £160 per child per parent which equates to a £640 fine for a two parent family with two children. This is reduced to £320 if paid within 21days. If you are going on holiday due to exceptional circumstances, please speak to the headteacher as a fine may not have to be issued. More information an be found on our attendance policy found here.
Persistent Absence
Persistent absence is defined by the Government as attendance below 90%. This equates to 19 days or more of absence a year or 100+ lessons missed. If a child’s attendance drops below 90% this could lead to them becoming a safeguarding concern. This could also result in the authority taking legal action against parents, resulting in a fine or court appearance. Over the next few weeks I will be making contact by letter with the families of children whose attendance is below 90% to invite you into school for a discussion about how we can support you to improve your child’s attendance.
Thank you so much to all the families who have been working hard to ensure children’s attendance and punctuality is high. Establishing early good habits really will make a positive difference to their lives. The link between attendance and achievement cannot be over stated. Your child will achieve better if they are in school every day. Only in very exceptional circumstances should a child be absent from school. Please ring the school office no later than 8.30am to report an absence.
Punctuality
Please get your child to school on time. Poor punctuality can lead to your child…
Feeling embarrassed in front of their friends
Missing the beginning of vital lessons making them fall behind
Missing important instructions for the rest of the school day
At Parkfield children are to line up before school and doors open at 8.45am. They close at shortly after.
If you arrive after the doors are closed you will have to come through the school office.
Arrivals after 9.30am are classed as an unauthorised absence for the morning session.
HEALTH and SAFETY
STAY SAFE EARLY BIRDS - REMINDER
If your child is attending Early Birds, please walk down the path and through the KS1 yard - it may take a few more seconds but it's much safer than walking through the busy car park. If the hall door is ever closed, simply ring the bell for assistance.
Dogs are not permitted in the school playground.
If driving, park further away from the school and walk to reduce congestion and the possibility of any serious accidents.
Unfortunately, Parents and Carers are not allowed to drop off and pick up from the school car park at any time.
Children are not allowed on the play equipment before and after school. Please keep them off.
